В наше время тотальной душевной и физической усталости кажется, что прибежище можно найти только около иконы или прекрасной картины. И как радостно было узнать накануне нового года о выходе аромата авторства Бертрана Дюшофура для MDCI Parfums, – посвященного портрету Жюли Рекамье (1805) кисти Франсуа Жерара. Еще не зная перечня “нот”, от одного взгляда красавицы и светской львицы, мягких линий ее тела в струящемся белом платье и темно-золотой накидке хотелось скорейшего знакомства с ольфакторным воплощением. И вот желанное нажатие на спрей… Деликатный гурманский, цветочный, вневременной аромат, поначалу показавшимся намеком на герленовские платья Тьерри Вассера. К счастью, другая совсем история. Кладезь истории.

В новом парфюме найдена гармония ванили со свежими, облитыми лимонным соком и одновременно терпкими жимолостью и османтусом, украшенная экзотическими гурманскими акцентами (гранат, карамболь, азиатская груша). Несмотря на зефирный в прямом и переносном смысле слова характер, сделано это, пожалуй, тоньше, чем вкусная Прекрасная Елена, созданной Бертраном для марки одиннадцать лет назад. Нежная Жюли предстает перед нами со своим трогательным и в то же время последовательным нравом, предлагая обратить внимание на ту или иную часть портрета. И ее не устаешь разглядывать. Это тонкое ванильное “платье” на сандаловой подкладке украсит в любое время суток.

2022 год был настолько изматывающим, что спокойные и вкусные ароматы занимали верхние места в парфюмерном перечне. Носились ванильные, кофейные, шоколадные, вафельно-печеньковые парфюмерные произведения, в сочетании с сандалом и цветами – или с чуть более основательными отсылками к трапезе (булочки с изюмом и орехами, например, и даже пицца с прованскими травами). Так что кое-какое меню в памяти осталось. La Ravissante Бертрана Дюшофура кажется изящной, сбалансированной и, как сейчас модно говорить, бесшовной.

Not without candy

In our time of total mental and physical fatigue, it seems that refuge can only be found near an icon or a beautiful painting. And how happy it was to learn on the eve of the new year about the new release of the fragrance by Bertrand Duchaufour for MDCI Parfums, dedicated to the Portrait de Juliette Récamier (1805) by François Gérard. Still not knowing the list of “notes”, from one look of a socialite and a beautiful woman, the soft lines of her body in a flowing white dress and a dark gold cape, I wanted to get acquainted with the olfactory incarnation as soon as possible. And here’s the desired press on the spray… A delicate gourmand, floral, timeless fragrance that at first seemed like a hint of Thierry Wasser’s Guerlain dresses. Fortunately, it’s a completely different story, a trove of history.

In the new perfume, a harmony of vanilla with fresh, doused with lemon juice and at the same time tart honeysuckle and osmanthus, adorned with exotic gourmand accents (pomegranate, carambola, Chinese pear), was found. Despite the marshmallow nature in the literal and figurative sense, it is made, perhaps, even more refined than the delicious La Belle Helene, created by Bertrand for the brand eleven years ago. Gentle Juliette appears before us with her touching and yet consistent disposition, suggesting to pay attention to one or another part of the portrait. And you can’t stop looking at her. This thin vanilla “dress” on a sandalwood lining will decorate you at any time of the day.

2022 was so exhausting year that calm and delicious scents have been at the top of the perfume list. Vanilla, coffee, chocolate, waffle-cookie perfumes were worn, combined with sandalwood and flowers – or with slightly more solid references to the meal (buns with raisins and nuts, for example, and even pizza with Provence herbs). So this type of menu is in my memory. And La Ravissante by Bertrand Duchaufour seems elegant, balanced and, as it is now fashionable to say, seamless.

Подсказка, во-первых, в названии – оазис Сива находится в Египте, где прохлада всегда желательна, а во-вторых – в описании “пирамиды”: по-видимому, личи вместе со сладостью пиона дает ощущение яблока и вместе с турецкой розой – груши. Rose de Siwa – теплый и в меру влажный аромат, c умеренным, опять-таки, гурманством.

В удачные раскрытия приходила мысль о том, что именно этот парфюм мог бы заменить снятый с производства розовый шипр So Pretty by Cartier – гладким потоком розы с фруктовыми акцентами, при условии, что человек любит помадные нюансы, – скажем, как в Lipstick Rose by Frédéric Malle. A home run

Rose de Siwa by Parfums MDCI, Francis Kurkdjian authorship, in our cold spring is not particularly welcoming, but I wear it to understand why there was no strong friendship for so many years (2006 creation) in any other season. And here’s what I think. Both freshness and “appleness” are actually its advantages, if we can change our perception a little bit. The clue is, firstly, in the name – the Siwa oasis is located in Egypt, where coolness is always desirable, and secondly – in the description of the “pyramid”: probably this lychee, together with the sweetness of a peony, gives the feeling of apples and, with a Turkish rose, even pears presence. Rose de Siwa is a warm and moderately moist scent, and again, moderately gourmet.

When the perfume opened well, it seemed like this scent could replace the discontinued rose chypre So Pretty by Cartier – I mean its smooth flow of rose with fruity accents, as long as the person loves touch of lipstick, for example, as in Lipstick Rose by Frédéric Malle. But you have to be ready for a large amount of hedione.

Четкие параллели вы сможете провести снежной зимой, когда контраст между красивой голубой цветочной аурой и темной замшей и мягкими животными нюансами особенно заметен. В день святого Валентина парфюм украсит и его, и ее. Но в летнюю жару эту конструкцию Натали Фейстауэр разглядывать тоже интересно, потому что она слегка отходит от портрета к пасторальным картинам.

Во-первых, появляется садовая мебель из ротанга и теплый хлеб на льняной скатерти. Во-вторых – молочные облака и общая расслабляющая атмосфера киселя. Сочетание капель росы и пудры, а также кокетливых песчинок специй. Парфюм – плотный и изящный одновременно, утверждающий красоту жизни, природы и классического искусства. Среди трио ароматов, вышедших в серии Painters and perfumers в 2019, этот – мой любимец.

With a collar

L’homme aux gants by Parfums MDCI, as an olfactory illustration of Titian’s famous portrait “The Man with the Glove”, conveys the colors and tactile sensations of the young man’s suit. You can draw clear parallels in the snowy winter, when the contrast between the beautiful blue floral aura and dark suede and soft animal nuances is especially noticeable. On Valentine’s Day, perfume will adorn both him and her. But in the summer heat it is also interesting to look at this Nathalie Feisthauer’ construction, because it slightly departs from a portrait to pastoral paintings.

Firstly, there are rattan garden furniture and warm bread on a linen tablecloth. Secondly – milky clouds and a general relaxing atmosphere of jelly. A combination of dewdrops and powder, as well as flirty grains of spice. The perfume is dense and elegant at the same time, affirming the beauty of life, nature and classical art. Among the trio of fragrances released in the Painters and perfumers series in 2019, this is my favorite.

Изящный цветочный кожаный и удовый аромат передает цвета, настроение и детали портрета кисти Теодора Жерико «Офицер конных егерей императорской гвардии, идущий в атаку». Мандарин и теплая роза уравновешиваются шафраном с аккуратной металлической нотой (клинок), а также слегка специевой кожей (сбруя). С хорошим раскрытием легко представить эффектные алые лепестки, ягоды клюквы, калины или даже кровь, хотя парфюм рассказывает, скорее, о жизни, силе и здоровье. И чуть позже можно почувствовать саму лошадку – маслянистый, с каплей дегтя и “пороха” аромат уда.

Cuir Cavalier – пышный и бархатный, как уютный коврик или диван в музее. И если вам полюбился Mon Seul Désir, созданный Стефани Бакуш для Jul et Mad, тоже, кстати, как ольфакторная иллюстрация знаменитой картины (“Дама с единорогом”), – стоит попробовать и Cuir Cavalier, как мультигендерную мягкую специевую кожу с мандарином, цветами и удом.

Blood, flowers and grass

Decent modern perfumes from the new series of Parfums MDCI Painters and perfumers remind us of beautiful classical paintings, and today I’d like to write about Nathalie Feisthauer’ work Cuir Cavalier. Elegant floral leather and oud fragrance conveys the colors, mood and details of the portrait by Théodore Géricault “An Officer of the Imperial Horse Guards Charging”. Tangerine and warm rose are balanced by saffron with a neat metallic note (blade), as well as by slightly spicy leather (bridle). With a good opening, it is easy to imagine spectacular scarlet petals, cranberries or even drops of blood, although the perfume tells more about life, strength and health. And a little later you can feel the horse itself – oily, with a hint of tar and “gunpowder” oud scent.

Cuir Cavalier is lush and velvet, like a cozy rug or sofa at the museum. And if you fell in love with Mon Seul Désir, created by Stephanie Bakouche for Jul et Mad, which, by the way, was also inspired by the work of art (“The Lady and the Unicorn”), it’s worth trying Cuir Cavalier, as multi-gender soft leather scent with flowers, tangerine and oud.

Меня всегда восхищали крупные цветки жасмина и кремовый иланг, которые щедро отдает парфюм, что бы ни случилось. Раскрытие Promesse de l’Aube может быть персиково-мицуковым, или, скорее, в сторону сандаловой деревяшки Самсары, но цветы и тонка с ванилью держат свою линию, удивляя, восхищая, создавая расслабляющую атмосферу. База парфюма – пушистое облако, нечто абстрактно-сказочное, с воспоминанием о жасминовых лепестках в глиняной посуде.

Что касается одноименного произведения Ромена Гари, мне кажется, имеет смысл знакомиться с ними вместе, или посмотреть, надушившись парфюмом, снятый на основе книги фильм. Франсис Кюркджян передал то светлое чувство, которое испытал главный герой, увидев Средиземное море.

“Первое знакомство с морем потрясло меня. Я тихо спал на своей кушетке, как вдруг пахнуло душистой свежестью. Это поезд остановился в Алассио и мать приоткрыла окно. И все эти прекрасные цветы, и почти съедобный крем, и персики – все это могло греть душу героя, когда он представлял, как оправдает наконец ожидания матери, сделает то, о чем она много лет мечтала. И так сквозь череду лишений, неудач и неуравновешенности одинокой женщины, переложившей на плечи ребенка обязанность спасти весь мир, на передний план выходят оптимизм и красота жизни, какой она есть.

Cream of the Crop

Promesse de l’Aube by Parfums MDCI was created 14 years ago and now we’re naturally taking it as the classic perfume. This is a beautiful floral fragrance, which reminds us of two legendary perfumes by Guerlain – Samsara and Mitsouko. And if until 2010 it might seem that, having rarities on the shelf, the creation of Francis Kurkdjian is not necessarily, with each passing year it became clearer, how much Promesse de l’Aube is individual, separate and precious, especially for lovers of elegantly recreated flowers.

I have always admired vivid jasmine flowers and cream ylang, which perfume generously gives away, no matter what happens. The disclosure of Promesse de l’Aube may be peach-mitsouko, or rather towards the sandalwood of Samsara, but the flowers, tonka bean and vanilla keep their line, surprising, delighting and creating a relaxing atmosphere. The base of the perfume is a fluffy cloud, something fabulous, with a memory of jasmine petals in earthenware jug.

As for the eponymous book by Romain Gary, it seems to me that it makes sense to get to know them together, or to perfume ourself while watching a film made on the basis of the book. Francis Kurkdjian conveyed the bright feeling that the novel’s hero experienced when he saw the Mediterranean Sea.

“I was sleeping peacefully in my compartment when I felt upon my face something like a friendly hand. I woke up and found that it was only a breath of cool and scented air. The train had just stopped at Alassio, and my mother had lowered the window. I propped myself up on my elbows and my mother smiled as she followed the direction of my eyes. I took one glance at the world outside and suddenly, with absolute and final certitude, I knew that I had arrived. I saw a blue sea, a beach of pebbles and fishing boats drawn up on their sides. A few palms. Something peculiar — I am unable to tell what it was — happened to me at that moment, in a flash; all I know is that it was a flash of happiness. I had a feeling of infinite peace — I had come back home, at last”.

And all these beautiful flowers, and almost edible cream, and peaches – all this could warm up the hero’s soul when he imagined how he would finally meet his mother’s expectations, do what she had dreamed about for many years. And thus, from one defeat to another, despite emotional instability of a single woman, who has shifted the responsibility to save the world onto the shoulders of her child, optimism and the beauty of life as it is have come to the fore.

В серии “Художники и Парфюмеры” французского парфюмерного бренда Parfums MDCI в прошлом году вышли ольфакторные интерпретации трех знаменитых картин. И сейчас я пишу о работе Сесиль Зарокян над “портретом” Томаса Гейнсборо «Мальчик в голубом».

Парфюм Blue Satin – мультигендерный, мужчины смогут найти в нем свои радости, а женщины – свои. А точнее, и мужчины и женщины, скорее всего, смогут увидеть оба раскрытия в разную погоду. И вот что заметила я.

Женский или, можно даже сказать, детский вариант – это тонкая абстрактная кожа в обрамлении нарядных, будто нарисованных фруктов и цитрусовых – лимонных долек, ананасных кубиков, ломтиков дыни. Цвет композиции – желто-голубой или даже желто-лавандовый, иной раз кажется, что какая-то часть лаванды тут присутствует тоже – и это не так свежо и вкусно, как сказочно. Кожаная деталь на красивой атласной ткани.

В мужском варианте лимон и плод бергамота становятся ледяными, и на ум приходит уже не ткань, а алкогольный коктейль, с шафранной пылью и перцем. Сладкие фрукты здесь почти не чувствуются, но хорошо ощущается бальзам из лепестков жасмина. Мне эта вариация кажется элегантным зонтом,  – и по фактуре, и по назначению. Бодрит по утрам и защищает в непогоду.

To wear a work of art

The French perfume brand Parfums MDCI has launched the collection “Painters and Perfumers” and now I am writing about Cécile Zarokian’ olfactive translation of Thomas Gainsborough’s famous portrait «The Blue boy».

It seems, Blue Satin perfume will suit both men and women. More precisely, both ladies and gentlemen might see several disclosures in different types of weather. And these are my thoughts.

The female or, one might even say, the children’s version is a thin abstract leather framed by charming, like a painting, fruits and citrus – lemon and melon slices, and pineapple chunks. The colors of the composition are yellow and blue or even yellow and lavender, sometimes it seems that some part of lavender is present here, too – and I don’t get that as fresh and tasty – rather as fabulous. Leather detail on a beautiful satin fabric.

In the male version, the lemon and bergamot fruit become icy, and it is not fabric that comes to mind, but an alcoholic cocktail, with saffron dust and pepper. Sweet fruits are almost not felt here, but jasmine balm is well visible. I see this variation as an elegant umbrella, both in texture and purpose. It gives you a burst of energy and protects in bad weather.

Креативный директор MDCI Parfums Клод Маршаль знает, как привлечь внимание парфлюбителей. Знакомая это история или нет – рассказана она будет увлекательно. Последний сюжет – воспоминания Клода о парикмахерских Танжера, где можно было получить отличный арабский сервис в традиционной европейской обстановке. Сочетание экзотики и традиций воплощала парфюмер Анн-Софи Беагель, автор разбойничьего парфюма Le Mat Mendittorosa. Le Barbier de Tanger тоже приглашает к раздумьям, но воспринимается гораздо более комфортным и конформным.

Примеряя Le Barbier de Tanger, я пыталась представить героя этого фужера. Мыльная пена и станок, освежающий цитрусовый одеколон и белоснежное махровое полотенце в атмосфере морского бриза, пряных трав и сервированных фруктов – кому интересно так пахнуть целый день? Космополитичному арабскому мужчине, помешанному на свежести и аккуратности, или засидевшемуся в офисе европейцу, готовому добавить к привычным цитрусовым и травам немного деревянной палубы? Для меня этот аромат – привет из 90-х, когда красавчик-брат перед учебой в университете наводил марафет с обязательным бритьем и укладкой “полубокса”.

Будете ли вы носить Le Barbier de Tanger, зависит от чувствительности к аброксану. Но аромат в любом случае симпатичный и напоминает два свежих парфюма других французских фирм – Musc monoï by Parfums de Nicolai и Yuzu Man Caron. Это возможность, ничем не рискуя, представить себя в ином имидже, или сменить декорации, приложив минимальные усилия.

In the barber’s chair

Creative Director of MDCI Parfums Claude Marchal knows how to get the perfume lover’s attention. The familiar is the theme or not – it is always running through a well-told story. The last plot here is Claude’s memory of a barber shop in Tangiers, Morocco, with the best Arabic–style service and old-fashioned European decor and supplies. The combination of exoticism and tradition was embodied by the perfumer Anne-Sophie Behaghel, the author of bandit perfume Le Mat by Mendittorosa. Le Barbier de Tanger is also a food for thought, but can be seen much more comfortable and conformable.

Wearing Le Barbier de Tanger, I have tried to imagine the character of this Fougère hero. Who are wondering about lather, razor, refreshing citrus cologne and crisp white towel in the sea breeze, herbs, served with fruit atmosphere? Cosmopolitan Arab men, obsessed with freshness and accuracy, or overstayers in European offices, ready to add wooden deck to the citrus and herbs? For me, this fragrance is greetings from the 90’s, when every morning good-looking brother finished freshening up with the obligatory shaving and styling his hair before university study.

Can we love Le Barbier de Tanger, depends on the sensitivity to ambroxan. But the scent is cute anyway and reminds me a little bit two fresh perfumes from other French companies – Musc monoï by Parfums de Nicolai and Yuzu Man Caron. This is an opportunity to present ourselves in a different image without any risk, or change the scenery, putting minimal effort.

Вероятно, чтобы лучше понять новый парфюм Parfums MDCI Fêtes Persanes, стоит прочитать либретто оперы-балета французского композитора эпохи барокко Жана-Филиппа Рамо “Галантные Индии”. “Персидский праздник цветов» – выход третий. Сесиль Зарокян сделала “Fêtes Persanes” еще более парфманьячным ароматом, чем предыдущий заманчивый абстрактный пряник “Les Indes Galantes”. “Fêtes Persanes” – парфюм-загадка. Изначальная мощь в раскрытии только напоминает характером Mon Nom Est Rouge Majda Bekkali Sculptures Olfactives – очень скоро аромат расплавится к деликатной розе с не менее душевными пряностями. Диалог (поединок) розы и горячего, анималистичного дерева будет длиться весь “третий выход”.

Идея спрятать розу и ваниль, учитывая либретто “Галантной Индии”, кажется вполне удачной. “Fêtes Persanes” невозможно ни предсказать, ни приручить. Горячий пустынный ветер поднимается над виноградно-конфетными пряностями совершенно стихийно. “Fêtes Persanes” каким-то образом объединяет элементы воздуха, огня и земли, оставаясь на грани фантастики и реальности.

To get into ballet

Perhaps to understand the new perfume of Parfums MDCI Fêtes Persanes it is better to read the libretto of the opera-ballet by French composer of the Baroque Jean-Philippe Rameau “Les Indes galantes”. “The Flowers” is the third entry of the performance, a struggle of a rose and a storm, and secret love, and charming behavior of the peoples from exotic countries.

Cécile Zarokian made “Fêtes Persanes” even more perfumista’ scent than the previous tempting abstract honey-cake “Les Indes Galantes”. “Fêtes Persanes” is the perfume of mystery. The initial power in disclosure only resembles the character of Mon Nom Est Rouge by Majda Bekkali Sculptures Olfactives. It is very quickly melts in a delicate rose and soulful spice. A dialog (or it would be better to say a duel) of roses and hot, animalic wood will last the entire “third entry”.

The idea of hiding a rose and vanilla, taking into account the libretto, seems to be quite successful. It is impossible to predict the power of this perfume. The hot desert wind rises above the grape and candy spice quite spontaneously. “Fêtes Persanes” somehow combines elements of air, fire and earth, staying on the verge of fantasy and reality.

Новый аромат Parfums MDCI Les Indes Galantes получился очень рождественский. Из искристых цитрусовых, мягких пряностей, деликатесной начинки и осторожного ладана можно сложить красивый абстрактный пряник. Это достойное продолжение других “историй Шахерезады” из коллекции MDCI.

Les Indes Galantes объемный и одновременно подвижный, гурманский, но несъедобный, с достаточно загадочной базой, напоминающей роспись из темной воздушной пыли. Такое ощущение, что Сесиль Зарокян наконец-то учла потребности людей уставших, фрустрированных и замерзающих. В то время как за окном валит снег, мне нравится наблюдать за структурой аромата и представлять себя вовсе не дома, с пледиком и книгой, а где-то в театре в день премьеры. Все эти тяжелые портьеры, приглушенный свет, приготовления оркестра, программку в руках и ожидание праздника для души и чувств.

P.S. В некоторых точках раскрытия “Галантной Индии” любители Опиума Ив Сен Лоран почувствуют его горячее дыхание, а те, кто не смог носить четвертый Opus Amouage, но не забыл их симпатичное лимонное пирожное, попробуют лакомство с меньшим количеством кориандра.

New Year’s honey cake

The new Parfums MDCI perfume Les Indes Galantes seems very Christmas. Thanks to its sparkling citrus, soft spices, gourmet toppings and cautious incense you can imagine a beautiful abstract honey-cake. It is a worthy continuation of stories from the MDCI collection.

Les Indes Galantes is volume while moving, gourmet, but not edible, with a rather mysterious base, reminiscent of signature made with dark airy dust. I have a feeling that Cécile Zarokian even taken into account the needs of tired, frustrated and freezing perfumista. While snowing outside, I like to observe the structure of the fragrance and mentally traveling back somewhere in the theater before the premiere. All those heavy drapes, subdued lighting, orchestra preparing, the program in the hands and waiting for the feast for the soul and the senses.

P.S. At some moments of Les Indes Galantes disclosure fans of Opium by Yves Saint Laurent will feel its hot breath, and those who could not carry a fourth Opus by Amouage, but do not forget their lovely lemon cake, try the dainty with fewer coriander.

К аромату, посвященному Чио-Чио-Сан, нужен особый подход. Собрать воедино нежные цветочки, вкусные цитрусовые, имбирь, дерево и мускусы, и от всего этого легкомыслия не сойти с ума – совсем не легкая задача. Спустя несколько часов неизбежно встает вопрос, а прилично ли носить такое.

С Cio Cio San вспоминается My Ylang Caron, который так же фрустрировал. Собственно, все ведь ярко и красиво – откуда диссонанс? Натуралистически изображенные цитрусовые затушевываются розовым мелом и, оставаясь на дальнем плане, подергивают нервную систему все время раскрытия пионов.
