Парфюм из тестера показывал больше альдегидов и золотых брызгов вначале, а затем значительно более серьезный сандал в раскрытии. Новейшая версия легче, светлее и прозрачнее. В ней даже не сразу узнаешь те самые Островные Леса, при этом парфюм безусловно красив и нежен.

Альдегиды, апельсины и мандарины в ней встречают, как мне кажется, Samsara Shine (2001) by Guerlain. Плюс, белые с нюансом кокоса облака. Также мы видим ветви деревьев (нарисованных цитрусовыми) и следы животных. На острове свежий кристальный воздух, ручеек из розовой и флержоранжевой вод, хороший контраст между небом и землей. В этот момент уже верится, что аромат все еще шипровый. Откуда-то доносится запах выпечки с ванилью и кокосовой стружкой. Чуть позже дает о себе знать кожа змеи. И – белые, невесомые перышки. И если edt Жака Польжа воспринимается строже и четче и относится к обязательной программе знакомства с парфюмерной классикой, edp – замечательное произвольное выступление, к тому же, отвечающее современным трендам.

Between heaven and earth

Bois des Iles (1926, 2007, 2016) by Chanel. In the picture, you can see the modern edp. The one currently sold in the boutique. In my opinion, the concentration of the eau de parfum has also been reformulated. The perfume from the tester showed more aldehydes and golden splashes at the beginning, and then a much more serious sandalwood in the opening. The newest version is lighter, and more transparent. You can’t even immediately recognize those Bois des Iles, but the perfume is undoubtedly beautiful and delicate.

Aldehydes, oranges and tangerines in it meet, as it seems to me, Samsara Shine (2001) by Guerlain. Plus, white clouds with a hint of coconut. We also see tree branches (drawn by citrus fruits) and animal tracks. On the island we feel fresh crystal air, a stream of rose and orange blossom waters, a nice contrast between sky and earth. At this point, you can almost believe the scent is still chypre. A hint of baked goods with vanilla and coconut flakes wafts from somewhere. A little later, snakeskin makes its presence felt. And – white, weightless feathers. While Jacques Polge’s edt is perceived as more austere and precise, and considered a must-have for an introduction to classic perfumery, the edp is a wonderful free-form offering, also in tune with contemporary trends.

И все же, это звучит слегка и скорее “отсюда”, с полок со сложно закрученными сюжетами вокруг тех или иных ингредиентов, чем из винтажной бутылочки с законченной и волшебной сказкой. Роза при этом – очень хороша здесь, рекомендую. Как и легкая ореховость ближе к базе. Если есть силы абстрагироваться от вольностей дома Guerlain.

A movement towards a niche

Mitsouko by Guerlain, edt, the 2021 edition of the Les Légendaires Collection, drifts, depending on the weather and impressions, from a light degree of authenticity to a serious rethinking in what form we are ready to wear and love this great fragrance after more than a hundred years of its creation. And that’s where I’m right now.

This Mitsouko, an indicator of our inside condition and involvement, shows how much we are here and now – or there, in the wonderful Mitsouko past. How we take neatly measured – but still very modern moss. How acceptable for us here is a toy and “orange” peach. Whether we like voids between statements . . . Earth not entering into an invisible alliance with mosses?

Moreover, the release of 2021 is a movement towards a niche. It’s not that luxury hasn’t touched mossy roses in recent years. And yet, it sounds a little bit more from “here”, the shelves with intricately twisted plots around certain ingredients, than from a vintage bottle with a complete and magical fairy tale. At the same time, a rose is very good here, I would recommend it. As well as light nutty closer to the base. If you have the strength to abstract from the liberties of the Guerlain house, sure.

Меня всегда восхищали крупные цветки жасмина и кремовый иланг, которые щедро отдает парфюм, что бы ни случилось. Раскрытие Promesse de l’Aube может быть персиково-мицуковым, или, скорее, в сторону сандаловой деревяшки Самсары, но цветы и тонка с ванилью держат свою линию, удивляя, восхищая, создавая расслабляющую атмосферу. База парфюма – пушистое облако, нечто абстрактно-сказочное, с воспоминанием о жасминовых лепестках в глиняной посуде.

Что касается одноименного произведения Ромена Гари, мне кажется, имеет смысл знакомиться с ними вместе, или посмотреть, надушившись парфюмом, снятый на основе книги фильм. Франсис Кюркджян передал то светлое чувство, которое испытал главный герой, увидев Средиземное море.

И все эти прекрасные цветы, и почти съедобный крем, и персики – все это могло греть душу героя, когда он представлял, как оправдает наконец ожидания матери, сделает то, о чем она много лет мечтала. И так сквозь череду лишений, неудач и неуравновешенности одинокой женщины, переложившей на плечи ребенка обязанность спасти весь мир, на передний план выходят оптимизм и красота жизни, какой она есть.

Cream of the Crop

Promesse de l’Aube by Parfums MDCI was created 14 years ago and now we’re naturally taking it as the classic perfume. This is a beautiful floral fragrance, which reminds us of two legendary perfumes by Guerlain – Samsara and Mitsouko. And if until 2010 it might seem that, having rarities on the shelf, the creation of Francis Kurkdjian is not necessarily, with each passing year it became clearer, how much Promesse de l’Aube is individual, separate and precious, especially for lovers of elegantly recreated flowers.

I have always admired vivid jasmine flowers and cream ylang, which perfume generously gives away, no matter what happens. The disclosure of Promesse de l’Aube may be peach-mitsouko, or rather towards the sandalwood of Samsara, but the flowers, tonka bean and vanilla keep their line, surprising, delighting and creating a relaxing atmosphere. The base of the perfume is a fluffy cloud, something fabulous, with a memory of jasmine petals in earthenware jug.

As for the eponymous book by Romain Gary, it seems to me that it makes sense to get to know them together, or to perfume ourself while watching a film made on the basis of the book. Francis Kurkdjian conveyed the bright feeling that the novel’s hero experienced when he saw the Mediterranean Sea.

“I was sleeping peacefully in my compartment when I felt upon my face something like a friendly hand. I woke up and found that it was only a breath of cool and scented air. The train had just stopped at Alassio, and my mother had lowered the window. I propped myself up on my elbows and my mother smiled as she followed the direction of my eyes. I took one glance at the world outside and suddenly, with absolute and final certitude, I knew that I had arrived. I saw a blue sea, a beach of pebbles and fishing boats drawn up on their sides. A few palms. Something peculiar — I am unable to tell what it was — happened to me at that moment, in a flash; all I know is that it was a flash of happiness. I had a feeling of infinite peace — I had come back home, at last”.

And all these beautiful flowers, and almost edible cream, and peaches – all this could warm up the hero’s soul when he imagined how he would finally meet his mother’s expectations, do what she had dreamed about for many years. And thus, from one defeat to another, despite emotional instability of a single woman, who has shifted the responsibility to save the world onto the shoulders of her child, optimism and the beauty of life as it is have come to the fore.

А еще Jolie Madame может раскрыть гурманскую сторону. К примеру, Бертран Дюшофур, работая над экзотическими блюдами Fusion Sacre – Elle для Majda Bekkali Parfums, вполне мог вдохновляться отрывками Jolie Madame. Высокая кухня и атмосфера, где не обойтись без замечательного кофе и стильной, любимой сумочки.

In excess

Jolie Madame (1953) by Pierre Balmain belongs to the leather group, but it might be seen tricky not because of suede and animal nuances. This perfume requires attention to itself throughout the day due to the richness of its components. There are a lot of things here.

At some point, it seemed to me that the perfumer wanted to show the environment of animals, whose skin is used for the production of bags. Tropics with their huge fragrant flowers, coconuts, clay soil and active insects. So this is not about the fashion only. You don’t get too much leather, or, better to say, the suede in Jolie Madame, and this suede is made elegant. And in my opinion, it is not even a central element. A little later it became clear that Germaine Cellier dug deeper. The center of composition is the world. The whole world. Beautiful world. Rich, diverse. With fine herbs, leaves, spices. And walking along its paths is not boring, but not easy. As well as communicating with any mature and self-respecting woman.

In addition, Jolie Madame can reveal the gourmet side. For example, Bertrand Duchaufour, working on exotic Fusion Sacre – Elle‘ dishes for Majda Bekkali Parfums, could well have been inspired by passages from Jolie Madame. High cuisine and atmosphere, where you cannot do without excellent coffee and stylish, beloved handbag.

Малоизвестный парфюм дома Jean Patou PanAme de Patou (2001) при знакомстве может смутить трансформацией полноценного аромата в функциональный косметический. Красивые роза и пион с бергамотом и грушей, соединившись с липовым цветом, способны напомнить о… лаке для волос. Однако, это всего лишь вариант не самых удачных погоды и раскрытия.

PanAme de Patou идет прохладная осень. Гладкий парфюм, без странностей, показывает все негромко и неторопливо. Персиковую часть славных шипров 20го века, белые цветки жасмина без свежести и индола, веточки липы, грушевый сок. Воспоминания о липовой аллее, старом саде, плетеной мебели и бочке с домашним алкоголем. Крепкий липовый чай делает композицию слегка задиристой. Самое время – подумать над названием аромата. Он – о контрастной, экзотической Панаме – или о незнакомой стороне души. Понимаем ли мы себя?

Сандалово-мшистый дракончик из базы осенью спит, а на его месте видны стволы старых деревьев. PanAme рассказывает другую сказку, о хрустальных туфельках и сизом тумане. Сложно предположить, сколько нашлось бы ценителей этой работы Жан-Мишеля Дюрье, если бы ее перевыпустили в изначальном виде, – но тем, кто парфюмерию изучает, наверняка интересно увидеть мост от цветочных и фруктовых шипров в (обманчиво) свежий и девичий парфюм.

A lost soul

A little-known Jean Patou’ perfume PanAme de Patou (2001) might confuse us by its possible transformation into a functional cosmetic fragrance. A beautiful rose and peony with bergamot and pear, combined with linden blossom, are able to recall the hairspray. Luckily, this is just an option, because of not the most successful weather and disclosure.

PanAme de Patou looks good at a cool autumn. Smooth perfume, without any oddities, shows everything quietly and leisurely. The peach part of the glorious chypres of the 20th century, white jasmine flowers without freshness and indole, linden twigs, pear juice. Memories of a linden alley, an old garden, wicker furniture and a barrel of homemade alcohol. Strong linden tea makes the composition slightly cocky. This is the time to think about the name of the fragrance. Is it about contrasting, exotic Panama – or the unfamiliar side of our soul. Do we understand ourselves well?

A sandalwood-mossy dragon from the base sleeps in the fall, too, and in its place the old trees are visible. PanAme tells another tale about glass slippers and blue fog. It’s difficult to guess, how many connoisseurs of this Jean-Michel Duriez’ work would have been found if PanAme de Patou had been reissued in its original form, but those who study perfumery would probably be interested to see this bridge from floral and fruity chypres to a (deceptively) fresh and girlish perfume.

Dragons live here

Jean-Michel Duriez has a perfume, dedicated to the meeting of opposites, masculine and feminine sides. L’Étoile et le Papillon. The contrast and unity of the Turkish rose with the deep dark forces of sandalwood, cedar, patchouli and moss, which flow into each other through ylang powder.

L’Étoile et le Papillon is a niche and distinctive fragrance, with an emphasis on a note of moss, and this heaviness and even the viscosity of the swamp resemble a fairy tale about Slavic magic dragon Zmey Gorynych. I tried to wear it in a tropical climate, and the balance of power did not change – the scent was still viscous, with hardly noticeable flowers, full of snakes on the beach. The beauty of Gorynych’ roses probably comes only with testosterone and a lot of vital energy.

Balmain de Balmain, как достойный парфюм от достойного бренда, живительный и благотворный. Спокойный, носибельный и при этом многоликий. Непостоянный – в позитивном ключе. Только поначалу он настораживает специями и даже запахом ремонтных “затирок”, – каждую следующую попытку привыкнуть к нему парфюм подкрепляет встречными шагами к дружбе. Резкость уходит, входящий в состав гальбанум радует мелодичностью, на поверхность пробивается приятная зелень, появляются даже черная смородина и крапива. Природа заключает в объятия.

Однако же, при всем своем естественном и пейзажном характере, Balmain de Balmain остается строгим, современным и даже офисным. Никого не смутить его скромной фиалочкой или гладеньким жасмином. На этой стадии мне вспоминаются почему-то гигантские шахматы, которыми зонируют сады и парки. А дальше все зависит от многого. Отчетливую, красивую сандалово-пачульную базу я слышала только один раз. В остальные дни дерево и кустарники со мхами приходили незаметно, уплотняя впечатления. Этому парфюму уже 20 лет, и из него ни разу не выбирались джинны. Он – как старый, добрый и тактичный друг, с которым хорошо в любое время суток.

The right one

Balmain de Balmain, as a decent perfume from a decent brand, is a life-giving and beneficial. Calm, wearable and at the same time many-sided. It is in a positive way changeable. Only at first we can be alarmed by spices and even the smell of repair grout, – with every next attempt to get used to it perfume makes the similar steps to friendship. Sharpness leaves, galbanum pleases with melodiousness, pleasant greens make their way to the surface, even black currant and nettle appear. Nature embraces.

However, with all its natural and landscape character, Balmain de Balmain remains strict, modern and even office. You cannot confuse anyone with its modest violet or smooth jasmine. At this stage, for some reason, I remember the giant chess that zoned gardens and parks. And then its further disclosure depends on many things. I heard a distinct, beautiful sandalwood and patchouli base only once. On other days, the wood and shrubs with mosses came unnoticed, enriching the impressions. This perfume is already 20 years old, and genies never got out of it. It is like dear old friend, with whom we feel good at any time of the day.

Такой суровой и молчаливой бывает Warszawa в зимнем воздухе Киева. И хочется представить ее благонравной пани из самой Варшавы, в цветущем жасмине и с красивой ирисовой пудрой, но мысли то и дело возвращаются к пейзажу Генриха Сенкевича. Природа, напрягшаяся в необычном ожидании – полууснувшая земля, то сырая то почти безводная (сочетание листьев фиалки и гальбанума с пачули и стираксом). Красноватые блики от грейпрута и жасмина, и если повезет с раскрытием базы – промелькнут тени всадников и слышно будет конское фырканье.

Warszawa нуждается в тепле кожи и вдохновении ее понять. Чтобы высокородная пани взглянула нежно, должен проявиться рыцарь. Есть у нее потенциал запахнуть весной и указать новую дорогу.

The sabre is not the lariat

Warszawa can be such a harsh and silent perfume in the winter air of Kyiv. It would be intresting to imagine it as an elegant lady from inside the Warsaw, in the blooming jasmine and with lovely iris powder, but thoughts constantly return to the landscape of Henryk Sienkiewicz. The nature, strained in unusual expectation – half asleep land, in places too soft, in places suffering from lack of water (a combination of leaves of violet and galbanum with patchouli and styrax). Reddish glare from grapepruit and jasmine, and if you are lucky with the opening of the base – you will hear a horse snort and the shadows of the riders will flash.

Warszawa needs warm skin and an inspiration to understand it. If we want to see the noble lady’ tender look, a knight must appear. There is a potential in it to have a spring breathing in the air and a new road show.

Я слышала от одного парфюмерного консультанта, что ей мешает носить Noir Epices из Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle “какая-то душная, жирная нота” в цветочной части парфюма. На мой взгляд, цветы в Noir Epices выглядят безукоризненно, и за дурман здесь отвечает мускатный орех, с которым стоит для полноты картины согласиться. И если принятие произошло, нестерильность ощущается как дьявольски привлекательный штрих.

Мишель Рудницка так искусно передал свои впечатления о культурах с активным использованием специй, что даже жители бетонных “северных” кварталов могут проникнуться и очароваться, – конечно, при условии, что мы этому иному открыты. Классическая структура Noir Epices принятию только способствуют. Оставаясь довольно сухим цветочно-шипровым ароматом, Noir Epices как по-настоящему жаркий танец градус бытия повышает. Воздушные апельсины, шелковые розы, интригующий жасмин, прикидывающийся лилиями, умиротворяющая корица… это игрушечный кусочек Африки, куда еще надо было бы долететь.

The devil is in the details

I heard from a perfume consultant, i know, that she can’t wear Noir Epices from Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle because of “some kind of sultry, oily note” in the flower part of the fragrance. In my view, flowers here look perfectly, and it is nutmeg which is responsible for sultry quality. If we take it, “unsterile” thing can be felt as the devil and attractive touch.

Michel Roudnitska conveyed his impressions about the cultures with the active use of spices so artfully that even the inhabitants of concrete “northern” districts get into it – sure if we are open enough. Classical structure of Noir Epices only helps to discover. Being quite a dry floral-chypre fragrance, Noir Epices as a really hot dance adds more hops to the life. Air oranges, silk roses, intriguing jasmine, posing as lilies, soothing cinnamon … it’s a piece of a toy Africa, where we would have to fly.

Последний парфюм Neela Vermeire Creations Pichola какое-то время казался мне недостаточно колоритным на фоне остальной линейки. Хотя он и посвящен жизни знаменитого индийского озера, его “водянистость” не привлекала, а цветы не очаровывали.

Дело пошло в попытке сравнить Pichola с Tubereuse Caron. Оказывается, у Pichola вполне индийский колорит, и есть характер. Не такой сумасшедший, как у Tubereuse – но это даже к лучшему. Парфюм Нилы Вермеер размеренный и нетребовательный, если нет интереса разглядывать его строение – и может наполнить впечатлениями, если они нужны. Приятные специи из Mohur здесь еще более шелковые, и если ваша кожа не замыливает нероли, очень скоро представится чудесная пасторальная картина. Изящная фрезия, лишенная коварства тубероза и розовые лепестки в воде.

Этот пейзаж можно будет наблюдать довольно-таки долго. И даже чувствовать неторопливое движение волн. Pichola – самый медитативный аромат Нилы Вермеер, безопасный для первого знакомства с Индией.

Enjoy meditation

The latest fragrance from Neela Vermeire Creations Pichola firstly seemed to me not enough colorful compared with the rest of the line. Though it is dedicated to the life of the famous Indian Lake, its “watery” did not appeal, and the flowers did not fascinated.

It went in an attempt to compare Pichola with Tubereuse by Caron. It turns out that Pichola has true Indian flavor and character. Not as crazy temper as Tubereuse has – but it’s even better. Neela Vermeer’s perfume is measured and undemanding, if you have no interest to examine its structure, but sure you will be able to fill the day with impressions, if you need them. Nice spice from Mohur is even more silk here, and if your skin responds well to neroli oil, soon you can see a wonderful picture. Elegant freesia, innocent tuberose and rose petals in the water.

This landscape can be observed quite a long time. You can even feel unhurried motion of the waves. Pichola is the most meditative fragrance of Neela Vermeer’s collection and maybe the safest scent for exploring India.
