Многим кажется, что серия Aqua Allegoria и цитрусовые и травки в названии парфюма означают легкость, воздушность, свежесть и даже прохладу. В случае Mandarine Basilic Forte это не совсем так. В целом, композиция воздушна и в начальных нотах свежа (сочные апельсины и мандарины на подносе), однако очень скоро появляется не только темный лист базилика, но и фантазийный (конфетный) сандал, а также пудра, чего никто не ждет от одеколона. Mandarine Basilic Forte вкусен именно кулинарно. А еще, как мне кажется, он отсылает к ароматам нулевых, ауре парфюмерных магазинов того времени.

Итак, надушившись Mandarine Basilic Forte, вы получите несколько слоев: действительно, сочные яркие цитрусовые, конфетки-орешки-базилик-ликер, и темный абстрактный припудренный “сандал” с печеньковой ванилью, покоящиеся на амброксане и еще какой-то сладкой и ягодной базе. With the arrival of noticeable warmth, the season of Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria Forte Mandarine Basilic (2022) has come to an end. Let’s sum it up?

The charming duo of mandarin and basil in a warming, spicy, and sweet arrangement won’t make a strong impression in the coming months. Or rather, its impact may be too strong.

Many people think the Aqua Allegoria series and the citrus and herbal notes in the perfume’s name evoke lightness, airiness, freshness, and even coolness. This isn’t quite the case with Mandarine Basilic Forte. Overall, the composition is airy and fresh in the opening notes (juicy oranges and mandarins are placed on a tray). However, very quickly, not only dark basil leaf appears, but also fantasy (candy-like) sandalwood and powder, which no one expects from a cologne. Mandarine Basilic Forte is delicious in a culinary sense. And also, it reminds me of the scents of the 2000s, the aura of perfume shops of that era.

So, after applying Mandarine Basilic Forte, you’ll experience several layers: really, juicy bright citrus, candy-nuts-basil-liqueur, and a dark, abstract powder-coated “sandalwood” with cookie vanilla, resting on ambroxan and some other sweet base. Correspondingly, all this is covered with a subtle chocolate, rowan-currant berry, and nougat. The citrus, mixed with sugar and honey, turns into jam and marmalade, as well as filling for even bigger candy. The most delicate

Unable to cook, my son and I finally ate the exotic fruit we had saved up earlier and I’d like to note that this food is truly the most delicate. To my taste and sense of smell, pomelo combines orange, grapefruit and pineapple nuances. Later, I also sprayed a pomelo-themed perfume on my skin, – Pomélo Paradis (2015) by Atelier Cologne, – and yes, it reproduces the scent, but gives it its own interpretation (sweeter and fleshier than the fruit we had). Plus, it opens, I think, with the aroma of yuzu.

I’m delighted to meet Pomélo Paradis – and note that sometimes very simple solutions work. Grapefruit juice and peel, rose alcohol, blackcurrant, and toffee, all on a subtle base with the addition of vetiver. But I especially like the sample picture (there is information on the company’s website that the co-owner of the brand, Sylvie Ganter, is fond of interior design).

Мало того, из версии Forte сюда перескочили сахарные драже, добавляя и вкус, и цвет (белый). С первых и до последних минут аромат напоминает радостное ощущение от раннего утра в доме, белых занавесок на кухне и льющегося из окна света. Вот с этим мягким обволакивающим потоком и смешиваются в парфюме воздушные цитрусовые и зеленые “ноты”, аромат чая и запах пророщенных зерен. Это красиво и продумано. Гедонизм и праздник урожая.

On the light side of the kitchen

Limited Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic Harvest (2023) by Guerlain opens with a refreshing aroma of green tea and soft tangerine peel, but quickly makes it clear that it is, along with its brother Aqua Allegoria Forte Mandarine Basilic born a year earlier, a gourmet perfume. The tone of the harvest version, however, is higher, and the character is lighter. Tangerine and pear juices flow over the lightest surface of the meringue, and a basil leaf sets off the magnificence.

Moreover, sugar dragees have jumped here from the Forte version, adding both taste and color (white). From the first to the last minutes, the scent resembles the joyful feeling of an early morning at home, white curtains in the kitchen and the light pouring in from the window. It is with this soft enveloping flow that airy citrus and green “notes”, the aroma of tea and the smell of sprouted grains are mixed in the perfume. It’s beautiful and thoughtful.
